To be safe, to belong, and to learn free from fear.
The Australian Primary Principals Association stands with our Jewish school colleagues and communities as they manage the impact of this shocking and deeply distressing act of violence.
We unequivocally condemn antisemitism and all forms of hatred, racism and extremism. There is no place for violence or intimidation in Australia, and no child, family or educator should feel unsafe because of who they are.
Primary schools will continue to embody the values of inclusion, acceptance and belonging. School leaders and teachers will work with students and families in age-appropriate, trauma-informed ways to ensure these values are reflected in our words, actions and daily practices.
Othering, bullying, harassment and all offensive behaviours will be actively challenged, and students will be supported to learn respectful, compassionate ways of being together.
At times like this, school leaders carry a significant additional burden — supporting frightened children, reassuring families, guiding staff and holding their communities steady.
APPA will continue to advocate for the support principals need to do this vital work safely and well.
We stand with, and stand up for, all children and families to be safe, to belong, and to learn free from fear.
We believe in an Australia grounded in equity, excellence and mutual respect. Our schools and school leaders will continue to model the Australia we want to be.
