Teacher Workforce Shortages: The Human Cost

On Friday 19 September, APPA joined the National Teacher Workforce Roundtable in Canberra to put the voice of principals at the centre of this urgent issue.

In advance of the meeting, the APPA President collected case studies from across the country to highlight the shared reality:

👉 Classes split, curriculum narrowed, and specialist programs cut
👉 Leaders covering classrooms instead of leading schools
👉 Students missing stability, equity, and opportunity

Country, remote, and metro ‘hard-to-staff’ schools are hit hardest – and the strain is unsustainable.

Our leaders don’t want praise. They want the people, tools, and resources to make sure every child has a qualified, caring teacher every day.

The future of every child, in every postcode, depends on the choices we make for our workforce today.
