30 July: APPA's meeting with Professor Peter Tannock and Professor Carmel Lawrence, members of the Australian Government's School Funding Model Review Panel, went very well. They are keen to read our research documents and are now intending to meet with Professor Max Angus to discuss our research more fully. Click here to read more about the meeting.

30 July: Registrations for SchoolAid's Kids Helping Kids Awards are now open. Please continue to support SchoolAid, as APPA members have done for many years. They have just issued a media release with all the information that you need to know about how your school can be involved in these new awards. Click here to download the media release.

29 July: GenerationOne, an organisation dedicated to overcoming the disparities between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians in areas such as education, health and employment, conducting a National Schools Competition - "Hands Across Australia". Click here to read more about it.

There is a lot of information in the newsletter- elections (both Federal and APPA), Perth conference, APPA's submissions, and more ... we urge you to read it to keep up-to-date with what your national associations is invovled with.

22 July: At our National Executive Council meeting in Melbourne, APPA launched a set of questions it will be sending to the Coalition, Labor and Greens about their support for primary education and in particular, APPA’s four priorities: science in schools, social and emotional learning needs, children with disabilities and highly disruptive behaviour, and greater transparency of school funding (click here to read the four papers). We are asking the parties to respond by 9 August. We will collate and publish each party’s response on this website. Each response will also be sent to all Government, Catholic and Independent primary schools prior to the election. Click here to read and download the media release.

13 July: APPA has made a submission to the Senate Inquiry into the administration and reporting of NAPLAN testing. Click here to download the submission

13 July: REMINDER!! The closing date for applications for the MSP / APPA International Travel Award is now 20 August. Click here to get the details and then send in your submission. It is a great opportunity to undertake that project that you have been wanting to do for years!

10 June: We have released a paper entitled The Overarching Principles Governing the Reporting and Use of NAPLAN, with a media release, in which we put forward 6 principles and recommendations to be considered by all governments, because it is important that schools are protected from any negative consequences. Click here to read the media release and download the paper. We urge all APPA members to read the paper and discuss it with your school staff and community.  

18 March: APPA has released a new paper: Designing a Funding Model for Australian Primary Schools. It provides the basis for the design of a new model for school funding. APPA’s proposed model represents an historic breakthrough, which recognises that all Australian schools are entitled to government funding according to the needs of their students, irrespective of school sector. In launching the paper, Leonie Trimper said: "For the first time, all three education sectors have come together in support of a funding model that operates transparently and on the basis of need."
