The Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) today welcomed the Coalition’s commitment to ensure all schools would receive the funding allocated to them under the Government’s Building The Education Revolution program.

APPA also welcomed the Coalition’s commitment to give local school communities greater involvement in decisions on outstanding projects.
"In particular, primary principals in Government schools have indicated that they would like a
greater say in their school’s projects," APPA President Leonie Trimper said.

Earlier this year, APPA surveyed its members about the Government’s Building The Education
Revolution program. Nearly 2,500 principals responded, 78 percent from Government schools.
Principals from all sectors strongly backed the Government’s Building The Education Revolution
program. Non-Government school principals also responded positively to the control they were given in
relation to the projects for their schools.

However, many Government school principals called for greater transparency and participation in
their school’s projects.

"Principals strongly asserted that they both desire, and are capable of, local management of
significant capital works projects," Ms Trimper said. "Going forward, principals and local school communities will expect a strong voice in both the design and delivery of future capital investment projects. That said, we understand that many contracts for the next phase of the Building The Education Revolution program are already legally binding. Those contracts have to be respected. An ongoing commitment to investing in our primary schools is vital”, said Ms Trimper.
